Dr. Nebiyat Tesfaye

Dr. Nebiyat Tesfaye, a native of Addis Ababa, earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Hayat Medical College followed by a master’s degree in public health at Santa Medical College.

He began his career as a General Medical Practitioner at Debre Berhan Referral Hospital then transferred to St. Peter’s Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, where he served as a dedicated general practitioner in the pediatrics unit and later held the case coordinator for spina bifida and hydrocephalus (SBH) position. 

In 2023 Dr. Nebiyat took the position of SBH Technical Director for ReachAnother Foundation. In this capacity, he oversees the development and implementation of technical programs focused on the prevention, treatment, aftercare, and evidence generation related to SBH in ReachAnother’s eight Center of Excellence partner hospitals and beyond.

Driven by a profound commitment to prevention and advocacy for SBH, Dr. Nebiyat strives to raise awareness within the community about the risk factors associated with spinal bifida. His long-term vision includes fortifying food and promoting the widespread use of folic acid to reduce the prevalence of this condition. Dr. Nebiyat envisions a future where every mother can give birth to a healthy baby, and every family can experience a peaceful and joyful life.
